GREENWOOD ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD

This award is presented annually to an individual or group for exemplary action in the service of our regional environment.

1992
Richard Greenwood, was given this award for developing a recycling program in Idyllwild whose earnings were donated to community charities.
2007

Joyce Burk
(San Gorgonio Chapter, Sierra Club)
Joyce has been the Chair of the Sierra Club’s So. CA Forest Committee for over 20 years, commented on the Forest Service’s last 2 Management Plans, surveyed roadless areas for wilderness quality in the San Jacinto Mountains, including So. Fork San Jacinto & an addition to the San Jacinto Wilderness & commented on countless projects in Mt. San Jacinto State Park to the mountain’s foothills. Her efforts lead to the creation of the Santa Rosa Wilderness & an expansion to the San Jacinto Wilderness. Even though she lives in Barstow, Joyce is a trove of information about our mountain & an inspiration to those of us working to protect it & its resources. I think we owe her a big “Thank you.”
(Side note - she also worked to establish the Mojave National Preserve for nearly 20 years)
