Born To Be Wild!

The Idyllwild Earth Fair was created in 1990 by a group of volunteers who wanted to contribute to the life of our local community by presenting an annual event focusing on environmental concerns that effect us locally and globally. The Committee seeks to balance festivity and education as we celebrate the diversity and abundance of the natural world and learn to care more adequately for its optimal survival and preservation. We hope to inspire and motivate Earth Fair participants to become actively involved in this pursuit through interaction with those providing information and expertise in such areas as solar energy, multi-species preservation, recycling, earth-friendly products, fire safety, composting, water conservation, and more.

Each year the Earth Fair Committee sponsors a letter writing booth where several letters about environmental issues requiring urgent action are available to sign and mail. Performers donate their time and talents to provide entertainment throughout the day, and a variety of enticing food items are available for participant’s enjoyment. Also on the agenda is the presentation of the Richard Greenwood Environmental Award, presented annually to an individual for exemplary action in service of the regional environment. Organic cotton Earth Fair T-shirts are available for purchase as a commemoration of the day’s events.

The Idyllwild Earth Fair Committee feels that a healthy environment begins in ones own community. We are committed to providing an opportunity to become educated and take action on an array of significant and compelling environmental issues in our regional area, and beyond. The Idyllwild Earth Fair promises an enhancing and meaningful experience to all involved.
